Step back in time to 1929 and end in 2011, all in the same building, on the same day, complete with lunch! The historic center of Downtown Dutchtown is being actively revitalized today. Catch the spirit through this slide show and tour of a building that started as a furniture store in 1929 and has metamorphosed into a modern live/work, mixed use space: a 6,000-sq. ft. contemporary loft, urban cafe, business offices and arts collective.

Opening with the fall of the Ching Dynasty, (The Golden Age of Chinese Civilization) and then focusing on the period from the Opium Wars to the Communist Revolution, we will understand the fall and the rise of the power in Asia. Lectures and discussion are structured around major topics of modern Chinese history, generally in chronological order from the opening of China to the West in 19th century to the recent time.
