During the 15th and 16th centuries, two very different world leaders were women—Isabella of Spain and Elizabeth of England. They were successful, their nations were successful under their leadership and they are both remembered in their nations as great leaders. Look at their lives and their policies that made their nations great, and how those policies influenced the course of Western history that continues to affect us today.

105 Dialogue of the Carmelites

One of the 20th Century’s most powerful, important and emotionally challenging operas, Dialogue of the Carmelites, is based on a play by Georges Bernanos and was premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1956. Set against the terrifying backdrop of the French Revolution, it tells the story of a young woman of nobility who becomes a nun against the wishes of her father and brother.

This is a class about an American success story during the Victorian (Gilded) Age. It is about an English immigrant boy who became an American Capitalist. In an effort to share his success with future generations, Thomas Dunn provided for enrichment of the physical, mental, moral and social development of residents of St. Louis through provisions in his Last Will and Testament for recreation and education programs. Learn more about this interesting man within the context of the time of his life and his vision for ours.

If you’ve had some success with your drawings but need some guidance, this is the class for you. We’ll look at drawing and shading techniques, perspective (it’s not that scary!) and how to look at things a bit differently. Please bring paper or sketchbook.

104 Using the Spanish Language

Let’s learn Spanish through fun, simplified lessons stressing pronunciation, basic grammar and verb usage. We’ll teach you to converse, comprehend and travel through a Spanish-speaking environment. The goal is to help you communicate and gain confidence in your Spanish skills as you use the language for daily situations. Course includes lecture and small group interactions. No prior Spanish experience required.
